About SouLand

The absolute beauty and melody of nature not only boosts our physical wellbeing and mental health, but also reminds us that we are part of something bigger. A part of the natural world, not apart from it.

Our Story

SouLand was dreamt into life when Zoe found inspiration returning home from a transformational journey to Rishikesh (the birthplace of yoga) at the foothills of the Himalayas in India. There she found a profound love for practising Yoga, surrounded by Nature and Mother Earth.

SouLand is an enchanting place where our loving community (Sangha) can come together, as they are, and share the energy and love of all those present.

By being continually encouraged and inspired by those that surround us we can light each other up. We can take the time to rethink our ways, try things a little differently, and create an opportunity to bring awareness to what we do, where we go, and how we do it.

Our true essence is to cultivate love and compassion for ourselves, those around us and the wider universe.

The authentic yogic teachings shared here at Souland are there to support you in your process of returning to a state of balance and harmony – to awaken you to the brilliance of who you are, and your own infinite potential.

It’s a beautiful thing to be a part of, to go within, and it’s exciting to see where we will go on this journey together.

So, whether you’re in need of a morning stretch, a peaceful place to just breathe, a safe space to heal, or a barefoot dance under the moon…. we are here for you!

We are a loving community and passionate about sharing this path with you.

Love is the natural tendency of nature, so let’s lead a life towards happiness!

“Your purpose here is to evolve, to transform, to experience radical aliveness, to awaken to your true nature. You are the path. The path is you. The time is now.”

Each time we join together here at SouLand, it is an opportunity for every one of us to grow, to listen and to learn and we are so very grateful for you all.

Life is magical, so are you, and that is the message of which we are here to remind you.

Together we rise!

Zoe and the SouLand Tribe x

Zoe Walker - SouLand Yoga

Owner, SouLand

Zoe lives yoga, taking the teachings and applying them to all aspects of her life. Her practice is alive and ever-evolving filled with wisdom and Kriya coming from the Yog-Vedantic teachings of the Himalayas and her Master Anand Mehrotra.

She believes that if we focus on our breath, mind, and body, we create a deep connection within ourselves, to our internal nature.  When we are consistent with our yoga practice we start to develop an awareness of our own energy – our prana, or life force – which, over time, we come to realise is the same life force within all living beings. That’s why practising yoga amongst nature, where it was born, is like coming home. It gives us that sense of interconnection, oneness, unity and bliss!

“Let’s trade in all our judging for appreciating. Let’s lay down our righteousness and just be together.” – Ram Dass

Jonny Penn

Teacher

Jonny is big on travelling and visiting new places. “I like to be everywhere and anywhere I can. I’m a Gemini (the air sign) and I so I naturally move around a lot!”

He has completed Yoga training in Andalusia Spain, Rishikesh India, and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where he lived for three years pursuing an interest in Southeast Asian culture.

Surprisingly, his classes contain mostly still, grounding, and meditative elements, especially when also accompanied with sound and Gong therapy. “I’ve started describing my classes as ‘steel-cotton’. I’m always balancing weights – the lightness and freedom follows.”

Jonny now hosts classes, workshops and Gong meditations in and around Hertfordshire.

“What you do may seem insignificant, but it is very important that you do it. It is important for yourself, as well as for the balance in the world. As you let your compassion guide you into action to help heal the earth and those who suffer, your very acts will feed your own compassionate heart.” Mahatma Gandhi

Nate Thomas

Teacher

I’m Nate Thomas, a Vinyasa Yoga teacher and Breath Coach.  I love breathwork and I love teaching it. I also love dynamic movement and strength building practices that take my students to their perceived edge and then show them that they are stronger, more confident and more focused than they ever thought they could be. My breath coaching goes beyond traditional pranayama and focuses heavily on breathing to help ease anxiety and teaching my students how to control their own nervous system using just their mind and their lungs.

Action over form – that is my teaching ethos, passed on to me by my teacher Nico Luce. The concept here is that we are not looking for a certain shape, no asana is a target, and there is no right or wrong place to be. Instead, as a teacher, I guide you through the actions you can apply to your body in order for it to move and open up in a direction of intention without force or expectation. As we flow through these movements, I enjoy trickling snippets of philosophy into your ears and encouraging my students to EXPERIENCE what is truly happening in their body at each and every moment during their practice.

‘If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you.’ – Nico Luce

Emily Wigley

Teacher

Emily is a Yoga teacher based in St Albans and London.

Her former career as a dancer helped establish a deep connection and awareness of her physical body, but it wasn’t until studying Hatha Yoga in Kerala, India, that she found a deeper understanding of the mind, body, breath, and soul.

Over the years she has practiced Hatha, Ashtanga Vinyasa, and Bikram Yoga in London, India, Bali, and Spain.

Emily is now a lifetime student of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga and teaches Ashtanga Vinyasa asana poses and Yin asana poses, breath work, relaxation, and meditation techniques to strengthen and learn more about our bodies, breath, and mind connections and bring what we learn on the mat, into our lives off the mat.

“Peace can be reached through meditation on the knowledge which dreams give. Peace can also be reached through concentration upon that which is dearest to the heart.” Patanjali

Su Chanprasong

Teacher

Su enjoys teaching fun, creative classes by taking you on a playful journey, reminding you that self-care and self-love is a powerful tool to sustain your busy lifestyle. You can expect to leave the class feeling relaxed, refreshed, and ready to tackle your busy day ahead.

Su first experienced yoga was when she was pregnant in 2011. She soon realised yoga is more than just a stretch! In 2018, she completed her 200hr YTT with YogaLondon.

Her passion is to help others with their well-being. She has personal experience of the phases of loss, losing loved ones close to her due to poor health and lifestyle. Yoga has found her and helped her overcome these losses.  Her aim is to help others on this same journey.

“No matter how hard the past is, you can always begin again.” – Buddha

Mala Govan

Teacher

In 2000 Mala walked into her first Kundalini Yoga class and her life has never been the same. To further understand it, she did the Kundalini Yoga teacher training in 2012 and learned that it is a unique way to tune into your own energy with mantra used throughout your practice.

Mala feels very passionate about Kundalini Yoga because she has seen the benefits first-hand. Her personal experience has been her driving force. She was diagnosed with hypothyroidism when she suffered chronic fatigue. Diligently practising Kundalini Yoga and receiving regular reflexology resulted in her thyroid levels going back to normal. She is now able to offer her experience and knowledge to all her students and clients.

Mala holds a safe space in the class to allow you to release what no longer serves you and to become the best version of yourself.

Yoga is the journey of the selfthrough the self, to the self.” –The Bhagavad Gita

“May all beings everywhere be happy and free and may the thoughts words and actions of my own life contributes in some way to that happiness and to that freedom for all”

Susan English

Teacher

Susan first found yoga when she was 16 years old, accompanying her Mum to her classes. She rediscovered yoga later in life after suffering from very bad anxiety. She loved the way yoga allowed her to be completely present in the moment and how she could work with breath, mind, and soul as well as the physical body. No other form of movement gave her the same feeling. She has practiced and taught a range of yoga styles from the dynamic vinyasa to the healing restorative.

Susan’s classes mix creative movement and flow with held postures, finishing with relaxation. Teaching in this way allows students to find freedom, flow, balance, and stillness in mind, body, and spirit. She loves sharing her practice with others and looks forward to meeting you in class!
